If the last few weeks in the fandom menace have taught us nothing else, it has taught us these two valuable lessons in the wake of the announcement that Kathleen Kennedy was retiring, or being fired …again. Depending on your news source, of course.
1) Men (term used loosely) these days have a problem with a self assured woman in a position of power and control.
2) Reading comprehension and media literacy is at an all time low.
3) People can take whatever they think they read in the news and blow it completely out of proportion.
4) No one noticed that I said 2 things and shared 4 things, until you got here and I said something about it, thus proving point 2.
But let’s step back and review what happened and how we got here …. AGAIN. About a week ago a report surfaced that Kathleen Kennedy was “THINKING” about retiring at the end of 2025. The completely understandable and subdued response from the Fandom Menace and its leaders like the always truthful Star Wars Theory was that of – Ding Dong The Witch is Dead! Free at last!
And Although that was said with some clear and obvious snark, its actually pretty true as well. Videos surfaced all over TikTok, Instagram and YouTube proclaiming happier days ahead for the community because no longer would Lucasfilm languish under the tyranny of Kathleen Kennedy and her woke agenda. They used the celebration scene from the end of the Phantom Menace and said that’s how ALL Star Wars fans were feeling and that we ALL couldn’t wait to get back to good story telling.
What Had Happened Was ….
I hope you’re sitting down when you read this, because you’re in for a shock. Kathleen Kennedy wasn’t retiring and someone on Puck.News didn’t do their research, and of course the Fandom Menace ran with it. Because why wouldn’t they? It was after all proclaiming the fall of the worst person in cinema. Clearly, this very accurate news had to spread without fact checking, right? RIGHT???
Turns out, some fact checking would have done wonders. Kathleen Kennedy came out with a response and clarified things. She’s not retiring at the end of 2025, and doesn’t see that coming anytime soon. When she does get to the point when she is ready to retire, she will have a replacement in place and it will be announced.
This is like the 487th time Kathleen Kennedy was fired this past year alone, by the Fandom Menace. But hey, guys … SHE’S NOT GOING ANYWHERE! Lucasfilm is not about to fire the cofounder of Amblin Entertainment, the hand chosen lead for Lucasfilm by George Lucas, and one of the most decorated movie producers in Hollywood history.
Looking to the future
It’s bound to happen. We will be right back here soon. Right back into this very spot we are now. The Fandom Mence will lose their crap when they misread the news and blow it way out of proportion …. Again.
The best thing to do is to wait for an announcement from Disney, Star Wars and Lucasfilm, not some random “breaking news” report from a website boasting a exclusive detail. Why? I guarantee you that when she does retire, her career will be celebrated with actual fanfare. Disney, Star Wars and Lucasfilm will make a big deal about it, just as they should.
Until then, we bear up under the chaos and toxicity of the fandom menace and we push forward. Just remember, you don’t have to like everything that Star Wars has made to still be a Star Wars fan. And if you are there, and can peacefully co-exist with other Star Wars fans without putting down their opinions, then you are one of us.
And there are more of us, we just aren’t as loud. Yet.
